Matt Cooke's Cheap Shot on Marc Savard Ranked Among Top 10 Most Infamous Moments in NHL History Zdeno Chara’s hit on Max Pacioretty and the lack of an ensuing suspension has Montreal fans and much of the national media up in arms. Chara’s teammates, Boston fans and the NHL found it to be simply a hockey play gone tragically wrong with unfortunate but unintended consequences.

Canadiens’ protestations aside, Chara’s hit doesn’t rank up there with the nastiest moments in NHL history. But it did come at a time of year that seems to bring out the worst in some NHLers. Monday marked the first anniversary of Matt Cooke’s brutal blindside cheap shot on Marc Savard, while Tuesday was seven years to the day of Todd Bertuzzi’s vicious attack on Steve Moore.
