Liverpool raided Newcastle in January, signing striker Andy Carroll for £35 million.

They've been strongly linked with a move for Toon left back Jose Enrique.

Now, they've been linked to Joey Barton, the standout player at St. James' Park this season.

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool is tracking the 28-year-old self-pronounced "England's best midfielder."

Barton has just one year remaining on his contract with Newcastle, and Aston Villa and West Ham are also interested parties.

Barton's partnership with Carroll could be reason to bring in the former Manchester City player, as he provided assists on eight of Carroll's goals prior to his move to Anfield.
