Report: Juventus Will Not Pay £16M Buyout Clause for Alberto Aquilani

After an entire season of speculation and posturing, it appears that the Alberto Aquilani saga won't meet a simple end.

According to Yahoo Sports, Juve sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has announced that the club will not pay the full £16M buyout clause that is part of Aquilani's loan contract.

After joining Liverpool in 2009, Aquilani was given little opportunity to succeed and failed to settle. After the season, he was sent on loan to Juventus, where he has enjoyed a very impressive 2010-11 caompaign.

He has indicated his desire to stay in Turin, but unless Juve fulfills the buyout clause by May 15, that will be out of his control.

"There is a buy-out clause that has to be activated by May 15,"  Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

"We’ll try to reach an agreement before the deadline. I can certainly say we will not sign Aquilani for the sum set by Liverpool."

If such occurs, Liverpool will be able to sell the former Roma midfielder on the open market, or bring him back to Anfield.
