The Florida Gators baseball team came into the 2011 season ranked No. 1, and they have a chance to go out as No.1.

With a 6-4 win over Vanderbilt on Friday, the Gators advanced to the finals of the College World Series.

Nolan Fontana and Preston Tucker led the Gators with two RBIs each in the victory. Tucker singled in Daniel Piggot in the bottom of the eight to break a 4-4 tie and put the Gators up for good.

Austin Maddox pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the win, which was the fifth win in six meetings against Vanderbilt this season.

Florida will attempt to win its first College World Series title on Monday against another SEC rival, South Carolina.

The Gamecocks, the defending national champions, advanced after a wild 13th-inning win over Virginia. USC won in the bottom of the 13th on a throwing error.

Game 1 of the best-of-three series is Monday night.
