While people may still be debating whether this year's Barcelona squad was the greatest of all time, no one would argue right now that Lionel Messi isn't the world's best player.

The 23-year-old Argentinian scored a personal-best 53 goals in all competitions over the course of the 2010-11 season, just one shy of Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo for tops in La Liga.

Messi saved his best for last, though, as his final tally of the year came on the biggest stage. With Barcelona and Manchester United tied 1-1 in the second half of the European Cup final, he knocked home a goal in the game's 54th minute that put his team up for good.
