Editor's note: NESN is counting down the top 50 moments of the Bruins' 2011 Stanley Cup season. Every day from Aug. 17 to Oct. 5, a memorable moment from the 2011 season will air on NESN Daily and be posted on NESN.com.

If you were surprised to hear Brad Marchand named as the Bruins 7th Player Award recipient on April 2, then it's probably safe to assume you didn't watch too many Bruins games.

The gritty forward surpassed any and all expectations during his first season in Boston. Marchand came in and proved to be a valuable member of the B's, providing energy when it was needed, while having an undeniable knack for scoring big goals.

Unsurprisingly, it was Marchand who turned into one of the Bruins' heroes on the team's way to winning its first Stanley Cup in 39 years.
