Looking to make the best of a bad situation, relief pitcher Dirk Hayhurst is holding a "post release auction party" to celebrate his release from the Tampa Bay Rays' AAA team, the Durham Bulls.

Hayhurst, a.k.a. "The Garfoose," announced on his personal blog that he will be auctioning off his used gear now that he no longer needs it.

"The best way to make use of bad news is by doing something good with it," he writes. "Now that I’m done for this season, it’s time to use my old gear for a new cause."

He plans to donate the proceeds to charities and is soliciting suggestions as to which ones.

Items up for purchase include his "Mr. Garfoose" glove, a Star Wars lunchbox and a used (but washed) Tampa Bay Nike Pro Fit T-shirt.

Hayhurst battled injuries in the minors this season and was 4-2 with a 4.12 ERA in time split between AA and AAA.

And for the record, a Garfoose is an imaginary animal that is half-giraffe, half-moose.
