The University of Oklahoma will apply for membership to the Pac-12 by the end of September, according to a report by Orangebloods.com.

The report also says that Oklahoma rival Oklahoma State is expected to apply for membership following OU's application.

Oklahoma's board of regents reportedly will meet within two weeks to formalize a plan to move to the Pac-12. The source close to the situation told Orangebloods that despite Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott's announcement on Friday that the league is not interested in expansion, Oklahoma is tired of the instability of the Big 12. Should the Sooners move to the Pac-12, the Cowboys would likely follow suit even though Oklahoma State president Burns Hargis and mega-booster T. Boone Pickens both have publicly supported the Big 12.

Should OU and OSU leave, the Big 12 would be down to 10 teams, and Scott has made known he would like Texas and Texas A&M to join in order to form a 16-team league. Texas would be hesitant to join the super-conference because it would have to abandon the Longhorn Network, which was launched this summer. If there is mass exodus from the Big 12, however, Texas would be forced to consider jumping to another conference.

OU athletic director Joe Castiglione and OSU athletic director Mike Holder could not be reached for comment on the matter Sunday night, Orangebloods.com reports.
