Everton announced that it will take action against fans who threw objects onto the field towards the end of Saturday's Merseyside Derby. Visiting Liverpool won 2-0, but the game was marred by unruly members of the crowd, who threw bottles and coins at Liverpool's Craig Bellamy and Luis Suarez.

In a statement issued on the club’s website, Everton's Director of Communications Ian Ross said, "We are fully aware of the incidents which occurred during Saturday's derby game. We are currently working with Merseyside Police on collating and analyzing all available CCTV footage of the incidents.

"If we can identify any supporter who threw anything — and we mean anything — on to the pitch on Saturday we will take immediate firm and far-reaching action.

"This behaviour is totally unacceptable and will be rightly condemned by all right-thinking Evertonians — and that is 99.9 percent of our fan base."

Suarez and Bellamy were taking corner kicks for Liverpool in the closing minutes of the game. Play was interrupted more than once as the players tried to avoid the barrage of objects fans were throwing their way.

These ugly scenes tarnished an otherwise cordial meeting between the two local rivals.
