Jack Robinson Signs New Liverpool Contract, Will Continue Development at Boyhood ClubJack Robinson has been tipped as the future left back for Liverpool and England’s national team.

The 18-year-old signed a new contract Monday that will keep him at Anfield for years to come, according to LiverpoolFC.tv.

“I’m delighted,” Robinson said. “I was going for my lunch and I saw Damien [Comolli] on my way through. He pulled me to one side and said the club wanted to offer me a new contract. There was no doubt in my mind, I was just so excited the club were offering me a contract.”

Robinson became the youngest player ever to appear in a competitive game for the Reds when he made his debut in the final game of the 2009-10 season. He’s seen sporadic playing time since then, appearing in two games last season and two Carling Cup games this season.

With first-choice left back Jose Enrique in fine form, the Liverpool Academy product looks to earn increased minutes with his performances in training. He can do worse than learn from Enrique, who has been one of the team’s most consistent performers this season.

“I’ve just got to keep working hard in training,” Robinson said. “I can’t just sit back on this contract. I’ve got to keep improving and showing people what I’m about.

“He’s been fantastic in every game he’s played,” Robinson said about Enrique. “I need to learn from him. He’s the perfect role model because he’s got everything as a left-back.”

Robinson is currently the backup left back for Liverpool. Oft-injured Fabio Aurelio also plays the position, but it is unclear if manager Kenny Dalglish rates him higher than Robinson. He is also a regular for England at the U-19 level.
