Joe Paterno Fired as Penn State Football Coach After Over 60 Years With UniversityJoe Paterno tried to get out in front of the disciplinary actions that may be coming. Instead, he was shown the door by Penn State.

The school’s board of trustees met on Wednesday night, and it was announced that Paterno will not coach another game for the university’s football team.

Paterno made a statement on Wednesday that he would be retiring at season’s end, after many called for him to step down for his role laid out in the Jerry Sandusky grand jury report.

The longtime head coach was reportedly informed of Sandusky’s alleged actions, and Paterno reported those allegations to his superiors. Many cited a lack of morality on Paterno’s behalf in calling for him to be fired.

Defensive coordinator Tom Bradley was named the team’s interim coach.
