Harvard product Jeremy Lin has signed with the Knicks, the team announced Tuesday.

Lin, 23, will provide insurance for the Knicks at point guard, where New York is relying on players who are either old, inexperienced or injured. It is unclear how long his stay with the Knicks will last, as he gives them the maximum 15 players allowed.

Toney Douglas, who before this season was known as a shooting guard who could provide instant offense off the bench, started for the Knicks on Sunday. His backup, rookie Iman Shumpert, left that game with a sprained right MCL in his knee, and veterans Baron Davis and Mike Bibby are both currently dealing with injuries.

Lin appeared in 29 games last season for the Warriors, averaging 2.6 points and 1.4 assists per game. He was a unanimous All-Ivy League selection his senior year at Harvard.
