Sepp Blatter Thinks Michele Platini Is 'Ready' to Become FIFA PresidentSepp Blatter has backed Michele Platini to succeed him as FIFA president in 2015. Platini has not declared his intention to run for the position, but Blatter thinks he is the right person to lead world soccer’s governing body, according to the Guardian.

“Michel Platini is ready. If he wishes,” Blatter told France Football. “He says ‘I do not know’ but deep down, he wants it.

“He will be a good president of course. He will not be the same president as me, because everyone is different, but he will be good president.”

Blatter has been a senior official at FIFA since 1975, and led the organization since 1998. He has been reelected three times, despite facing repeated allegations of corruption and mismanagement. Many expect that the 75-year-old Swiss executive will stand down when his term ends in 2015.

Platini, 56, is the current president of UEFA — European soccer’s governing body. He was one of the great players for club and country during the 1970s and 1980s. Since retiring as a player, Platini became a coach and administrator. He was elected UEFA president in 2007, and has held the position since then.

It is believed that Blatter is grooming Platini to take over as president when he retires.
