John Terry Makes Speedy Recovery From Knee Surgery, Appears on Chelsea BenchHow was Chelsea captain John Terry on the bench in Tuesday's FA Cup win over Birmingham City? He must have made a miraculous recovery from a surgical procedure that was orginially expected to sideline him for up to two months.

Terry injured his knee on Jan. 8, during Chelsea's 4-0 victory over Portsmouth in the FA Cup. He played through the pain of a bone bruise for the better part of the next six weeks, before it became too much to bear.

On Feb. 21 he reportedly woke up with a swollen knee, and the club announced that the 31-year-old defender would have an arthroscopic procedure (in the next day or two) to examine the extent of the injury. He did not play in Chelsea's loss to Napoli in the UEFA Champions League, and hasn't appeared for the Blues since then.

On Feb. 29, Terry said the surgery went well, and he expected to be back sooner than the original prognosis, according to the Telegraph.

"The operation went well and I'm feeling really good," he said. "The surgeon has shaved off a bit of bone in my right knee that was rubbing and causing a lot of swelling. We're all confident the operation has solved the problem and it is looking good for a quick return."

The return was indeed speedy. Terry was pictured at training on Monday and was fit enough to take a place on Chelsea's gameday squad on Tuesday.

While he was gone, Chelsea saw Arsenal grab hold of the fourth spot in the Premier League. Unpopular manager Andre Villas-Boas was also fired. But fear not. Chelsea's inspirational captain is back to help save its season.
