Sports Talk Radio Host Calls Hank Haney 'Horrible Human Being' in Heated InterviewRenowned golf coach Hank Haney will have his share of critics after writing a book about former star pupil Tiger Woods. It’s unlikely, though, that any of those critics will be louder than Craig Carton.

The sports radio host for WFAN in New York welcomed Haney onto his show with Boomer Esiason, Boomer and Carton, on Friday morning. It got ugly fairly quickly.

Haney was on to discuss his new book, The Big Miss, which details his time as Woods’ coach. That relationship came to an end in 2010, as Woods’ marital troubles became known across the world in the former No. 1 golfer’s own personal nightmare.

There are those, like Carton, who feel Haney blatantly violated a code as a coach by writing the book.

“People have different opinions,” Haney said early in the interview when asked whether or not he thinks he violated a code. “I’m very aware that’s going to be the case. I’m not the first coach to write a book.”

Carton eventually turned the interview into a personal attack, when he questioned the coach’s motives. At one point during the interview, it sounded like Haney was ready to end the interview. Carton then warned Haney to not be a “coward.”

“There’s a lot one-sentence excerpts extracted from the book,” Haney said in defense of himself. “You’re entitled to your opinion. … The prevailing thought about the book is going to be the most controversial thought. There are many coaches that have written a book. … It’s kind of a weak argument.”

Things got real ugly toward the end of the interview when Carton continued on by saying, “It’s offensive to me because you’re making money.”

Haney eventually stated, though, that the feedback thus far has been by and large positive.

“It’s great insight into the greatness that is Tiger Woods. That’s the insight I’m getting,” Haney said. “Your opinion has not been in the majority right now.”

That, however, did not satisfy Carton, who went on an incredible rant to end the interview.

“I think you’re a horrible human being,” he said. “It’s guys like you, the scum of the earth, that abrogate a relationship and say things about men that only they know, which is so patently offensive to the level of trust that public figures on the level of Tiger Woods have is disgusting. I’m disgusted about it.”

He then went on to say that Haney was a “snake in the grass,” before bringing it home with one more solilioquy.

“It’s hard enough for a guy like Tiger Woods — I have to imagine — to let someone come into his world and to have complete, utter trust in that man, which you have to do to become better and use a coach. And then for that guy to turn around and tell the most, you know, family secrets that have nothing to do with golf, and put that crap off as a golf book, is obnoxious.”

At that point, both Carton and Esiason realize Haney hung up.

“And Hank Haney has hung up,” Carton said. “I knew he was gonna hang up.”

Ya think?
