NCAA Frozen Four Championship Live Blog: Boston College Defeats Ferris State 4-1 to Win National Championship

End of Third Period: Game over. The Boston College Eagles have defeated the Ferris State Bulldogs 4-1 to win their fifth national championship. While the final score will suggest otherwise, this was a hardfought contest between two very talented teams. In the end, the Eagles broke the Bulldogs with a big third goal from Gaudreau. Parker Milner was dominant in net for the Eagles and was the biggest part of BC's title run, its third in five years. For head coach Jerry York, it's his fourth title with the Eagles and fifth overall, showcasing why he's one of the best coaches in the country.

Third Period 18:57 BC 4-1: Steven Whitney adds an empty netter. The Boston College Eagles will win the national title.

Third Period 18:38 BC 3-1: Ferris State has pulled Nelson. It's desperation time for the Bulldogs.

Third Period 16:58 BC 3-1: That just may be the end of it. Johnny Gaudreau uses some fancy stickwork to net BC's third goal of the game, and could possibly give the Eagles their fifth title in their history.

Gaudreau took the puck down the ice and was able to deke two Ferris State defenders all the way down to Taylor Nelson. The freshman fired a backhanded shot that beat the Bulldogs goalie topside. The Eagles have to feel that the national championship is theirs now.

Third Period 12:53 BC 2-1: Travis Ouellette blasted a shot at Parker Milner stickside, but the Eagles' goalie made another miraculous save to preserve the one-goal lead. While there is still a lot of hockey left, Ferris State needs to move quick if it wants to extend this game. The Bulldogs have to hope that Milner slips, but the BC goalie has been playing lights out for the majority of the night.

Third Period. 10:10 BC 2-1: Both teams have had limited success on the power play tonight, as Ferris State kills off the man advantage. Paul Carey was the only one to score on the power play for the Eagles in the first period, but no one has been able to score when a man is in the sin bin since. We are past the halfway point of the final period, and hockey fans are in for a treat as both teams will be pushing for the next goal.

Third Period, 8:08 BC 2-1: Brett Wysopal is heading to the penalty box for holding, and the Eagles will be on the power play for the second time this period.

Third Period, 3:47 BC 2-1: Ferris State kills the power play. BC had the puck near Nelson for the entire duration of the man advantage, but the Bulldogs did not give the Eagles the two-goal lead they desperately want.

Third Period, 1:47 BC 2-1: BC kills another power play and will now be on the power play. Bill Arnold had a great chance to put one past Taylor Nelson, but the Bulldogs' goalie made another great save. Arnold was hooked by Brett Wysopal on the shot, so the Eagles will have the man advantage.

End of Second Period, BC 2-1: Bill Arnold was called for roughing, so Ferris State is on the power play yet again and will start the third period with 1:37 left in the man advantage. Both teams had their fair share of chance to add another goal, but Parker Milner and Taylor Nelson both continued their stellar play. Both teams have reasons to be frustrated after two periods. Boston College must be wondering why it hasn't been able to put away the underdog Ferris State squad, while the Bulldogs have to be disappointed at their inability to capitalize on three power play attempts. Ferris State has to hope the fourth time is the charm if it wants to tie the game and have a shot at cracking the Eagles' chances of another title. Boston College is 24-0-1 when leading after two periods, so it will not be easy for the upstart Bulldogs.

The third period should be a classic, so if you are not near a TV at this moment in time, it's best to move from wherever you are and get in front of one, because this should be a blockbuster finale.

Second Period, 17:05 BC 2-1: Yet another kill for the Eagles. If BC holds on, Ferris State will look at the three failed power plays as a big reason why it did not pull off the upset.

Second Period, 15:05 BC 2-1: Ferris State will have its third chance to knock in a power play goal as the Eagles are called for too many men on the ice. This is a pivotal moment for the Bulldogs, as they cannot waste these advantages. The Eagles are one of the best closing teams in the country, and the longer that BC holds the lead, the more confidence Jerry York's squad will get.

Second Period, 12:35 BC 2-1: The Eagles kill yet another power play. Taylor Nelson had to fend off more shorthanded chances from BC. Ferris State can't be pleased with its inability to convert on these precious power play attempts.

Second Period, 10:35 BC 2-1: Kyle Bonis had a great chance to tie the game as he had a one-on-one with Parker Milner, but he was unable to control the puck. That may have been because he was hooked, as BC's Tommy Cross is going to the box. Ferris State is on the power play once again.

Second Period, 8:04 BC 2-1: BC had several chances as the puck floated around Taylor Nelson, but the Bulldogs' goalie stopped all three chances to keep it a one-goal game. If the Eagles are to prevail to win their third title in five years, they will have earned it as Nelson is doing his part to keep the No. 1 team at bay.

Second Period, 7:42 BC 2-1: Boston College kills the power play with relative ease. The Bulldogs had some chances to get one past Milner, but the Eagles kept Ferris State at bay. BC had some opportunities to grab a shorthanded goal, but wasn't able to add to their lead.

Second Period, 4:48 BC 2-1: Ferris State will be on the power play after Paul Carey takes out Taylor Nelson while the Bulldogs' goalie was trying to clear the puck behind his own net. Ferris State needs to capitalize to keep the pressure on the Eagles.

Second Period, 2:31 BC 2-1: Both teams have traded shot opportunities, but the goalies are holding their own. Ferris State is doing a good job of putting some pressure on Parker Milner, but the Eagles' star goalie is showing why he's one of the best players in the nation. Ferris State's first goal has been changed, now being credited to Garrett Thompson, after it was initially given to Travis Ouellette.

End of Regulation, BC 2-1: Garrett Thompson had a great opportunity to tie the game for Ferris State, but Parker Milner made a fantastic pad save to preserve the lead for the Eagles. Boston College began to take over late in the period, but the Bulldogs survived some sloppy play in their own end to keep it a one-goal deficit.

With one period in the books, it looks like the championship game will be a good one. Ferris State has its work cut out for them, as Milner has been the best player in the tournament, but staying close to the No. 1 team in the country has to give the Bulldogs confidence going forward.

First Period 18:31 BC 2-1: Taylor Nelson makes a nifty glove save, and tempers begin to flare at BC tries to knock the puck out of the goalie's hand. Ferris State was fortunate not to give up a goal after several turnovers in its own end.

First Period, 10:33 BC 2-1: Boston College broke a 1-1 tie after a powerplay goal from Paul Carey. The goal was reviewed by officials to see if Carey was guilty of high sticking but was held up to give the Eagles the lead. Brian Dumolin and Chris Kreider were credited with the assist.

Boston College got first got on the board when Steven Whitney scored for the Eagles at 3:18 in the period. Ferris State responded quickly two minutes later when Travis Ouellette put in the equalizer off a rebound and past a sprawling Parker Milner.
