Indians Closer Chris Perez Calls Out Cleveland Fans for Hating LeBron James, Rooting for BrownsThey say that to be a good closer, you need to have a short memory. Chris Perez must be a very good closer.

Only a few short months removed from criticizing Cleveland for not showing up to see the Indians play, Perez is back at it. This time, he’s speaking his mind about Clevelanders to The New York Times and going after a particularly touchy subject — the city’s hatred of LeBron James.

“I don’t get the psyche,” said Perez “Why cheer against a guy that’s not even in your city anymore? Just to see him fail? Does that make you feel good? I could see if the Cavs were in the championship, but that’s their mentality.”

He then turned his attention to the city’s insistence that they only root for winners.

“That’s what I don’t understand,” Perez said. “Their whole thing is, ‘We want a winner.’ Well, why do you support the Browns? They don’t win. They’ve never won. They left. You guys blindly support them. I don’t understand it. It’s a double standard, and I don’t know why.”

The Indians are currently second in the Central division with a 37-36 record, so they are winning, but just barely. If they hit a cold streak pretty soon, then Perez might not have to wonder why the fans aren’t supporting the team anymore.
