Lightning Strikes St. Louis’ Gateway Arch During Rain Delay at Cardinals-Royals Game (Video)

The official length of game for the Royals’ 4-2 win over the Cardinals on Thursday night was two hours and 27 minutes, a breeze that any Yankees or Red Sox fan would gladly trade for.

But that’s without considering the game ended at 3:14 a.m.

St. Louis and Kansas City played well into the morning, battling rain throughout the contest before the Royals finally locked up the win. Only a few fans stuck around to see the end of the victory, but if they did, they may have seen something pretty special when a lightning show came through.

Cameras in St. Louis caught lightning strike nearby — and not just anywhere nearby. A bolt came down and appeared to zing a metal, man-made structure that could double as the world’s biggest lightning rod: the Gateway Arch.
