Report: Vancouver Canucks To Fire John Tortorella On Thursday

John Tortorella’s tenure in Vancouver is reportedly over after just one disappointing season.

According to Farhan Lalji of TSN Vancouver, the Canucks will fire the head coach Thursday, one year after taking over for Alain Vigneault.

Tortorella, who was in his first year of a five-year, $10 million contract with Vancouver, joined the Canucks after being fired by the New York Rangers. The Canucks went 36-35-11 under Tortorella, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

The Canucks’ underwhelming season resulted in the firing of general manager Mike Gillis, who decided to hire Tortorella. Gillis’ dismissal coupled with Vancouver’s results with Tortorella at the helm have put his job in jeopardy for a while now, and it appears the team is ready to join the Nashville Predators, Washington Capitals and Florida Panthers in finding a new head coach.
