BOSTON — The first goal of the 2014-15 Bruins season came from a guy fans weren’t even sure would still be with the team.
Reilly Smith, who re-signed with the Bruins during the final week of September, beat Philadelphia Flyers goalie Steve Mason on the power play Monday night to put the Bruins ahead 1-0 in the first period of their season opener.
Bruins defenseman Torey Krug drew a roughing penalty from the Flyers’ Zac Rinaldo to put Boston on the man advantage, and Carl Soderberg made a nifty pass through traffic to hit a wide-open Smith for the goal.
