David James bankruptThe thousands of saves David James made during his professional soccer career weren’t enough to keep him out financial distress.

James, 44, declared bankruptcy earlier this year, despite earning an estimated £20 million ($32 million) during his 25-year playing career.

James now is auctioning off his soccer memorabilia and other personal items in order to raise money, according to the BBC.

“Among the items being sold through London-based auctioneer Hilco are 150 signed shirts, shorts and match balls,” the report said. “Also being sold is James’s customised Astra van and Raleigh Chopper bikes.

“Bids for his possessions, which also include exercise and DJ equipment, vinyl records, books and toys, are being accepted from November 6 to 18.”

James made 277 appearances for Liverpool between 1992 and 1999. James also played for Aston Villa, Manchester City, Portsmouth and West Ham during his career. James’ 536 Premier League games are the third most of any player. He also played 53 games for England’s national team between 1997 and 2010.

It has been widely reported that James’ 2005 divorce from his wife, Tanya, is among the main reasons for his financial woes.

James currently works as player-manager for Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters. James also is an analyst for British television network BT Sport’s soccer coverage.
