Chris Johnson currently is a free agent after the New York Jets declined to pick the second year of his contract in February. After an incident this weekend, though, finding a new team is the least of his worries.

The 29-year-old running back was shot in the shoulder at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday during a drive-by shooting at an intersection in Orlando, Fla. Johnson and Reggie Johnson, also 29, were passengers in a Jeep that took gunfire from another car that pulled up beside them at a red light.

Reggie Johnson suffered gunshot wounds to his shoulder, hand and leg. Both he and Johnson were transported to a local hospital and are in stable condition.

The driver of the Jeep, Dreekius Oricko Johnson, was killed in the shooting.

No arrests have been made in what police are calling a homicide investigation. The sheriff’s office has yet to release any additional information.

Johnson had the worst statistical season of his career with the Jets in 2014, rushing for just 663 yards and one touchdown on 155 carries. He had rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of his previous six seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
