Matt Chatham: Chip Kelly, Eagles Don’t Love Sam Bradford, But That’s OK

Sam Bradford is not the quarterback of Chip Kelly’s dreams. Neither, apparently, was Nick Foles, who the Eagles traded to acquire Bradford this offseason.

But according to FootballbyFootball.com‘s Matt Chatham, that could actually be a good thing.

The way Chatham explains it, most players in the NFL are not the ideal player their team would love to have at that position. Accepting that fact just gives you an empowering advantage.

“Contracts give players a sense of security and ‘belonging’ to an organization,” Chatham writes. “But there’s a reason contract terms don’t extend into eternity. When there’s a better option — whether it be for price or production — any team will take it.  As a player, deep down you must know this.  But to steal a Guns & Roses phrase from the 90’s, you have to ‘use your illusion.’ Every NFL player must make the most of their situation as it seems, and not focus on what it really is.”
