Demaryius Thomas could have a very special fan in attendance Sunday when the Denver Broncos begin the postseason slate.

The Broncos wide receiver is hopeful his mother will be able to be there to see him play for the first time ever when Denver hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers in a divisional-round matchup.

Thomas’ mother, Katrina Smith, has never seen her son play football. When Thomas was 12 years old, she was sentenced to 20 years in a federal prison on drug trafficking charges. Smith, however, was released from prison early after her sentence was commuted by President Barack Obama in July.

She’s also out of a halfway house in Georgia and has no travel restrictions, meaning she’ll finally get to see her son play.

“I know she’d be excited,” Thomas told reporters Wednesday, per USA TODAY. “It’d mean a lot for her to see my first game live.”

Thomas has scored a touchdown in six of his seven career playoff games, which could make Sunday even more special for his family.
