Rajon Rondo and the Sacramento Kings might not be among the NBA’s worst teams if they got to play the Dallas Mavericks every night.
The Kings bush-whacked the Mavs on Sunday night, cruising to a 133-111 win in Sacramento. Rondo, whose brief Dallas tenure had plenty of controversy, was all to happy to help contribute to Dallas’ current free fall.
Misery loves company, and Rondo told reporters Sunday night he hopes the Mavs, like the Kings, miss the playoffs.
“Yeah, I want them to get their plane ticket (back home when the season ends) as soon as we get ours,” Rondo said, according to ESPN.com. “So anytime we can help, that’s what I try to get these guys (his teammates) to focus on.”
Rondo did his part Sunday night, scoring 11 points and adding 11 assists in the blowout win. The Mavericks have lost their last three games — and eight of their last 10 — and woke up Monday outside the Western Conference playoff field.
Oddly enough, Rondo actually downplayed his first meeting against his former team back in November, saying “it’s not Boston,” referring to facing his other former team, the Celtics.
However, Rondo’s time with the Mavericks speaks for itself, most notably his very visible run-in with head coach Rick Carlisle. Rondo’s time in Dallas came to an unceremonious end as he was benched for the Mavs’ 2015 stretch run.
