Troy Flutie’s poor driving will prevent him from flying with the Boston College Eagles for the time being.

Natick, Mass., police arrested Flutie, a quarterback-turned-wide-receiver on BC’s football team and nephew of local football hero Doug, on Saturday on allegations he operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, The Metro-West Daily News’ Norman Miller and CBS Boston reported Monday.

Flutie’s arrest took place around 1 a.m. after he hit a curb in his hometown, according to police. Flutie was charged with OUI, possesion of an open container of alcohol while driving and being a person younger than 21 in possession of liquor. Police also cited him with a marked lanes violation.

BC football said Monday in a statement that it has suspended Flutie, a 20-year-old redshirt sophomore, pending the outcome of an investigation.

“Troy has been suspended from the football team by Coach Steve Addazio pending further investigation and faces the possibility of additional University sanctions pending the outcome of the court proceedings,” the statement said.

Flutie passed for 382 yards over eight games last season. Time will tell if and when either of those totals increase.
