LeBron James is an NBA free agent again, but don’t expect him to change teams.

According to James’ agent, the Cleveland Cavaliers forward has declined his $24 million player option, which is his way of taking advantage of the rising salary cap and maximizing his earning potential. James did this last summer, too.

The NBA Finals MVP said he’d return to Cleveland shortly after beating the Golden State Warriors in a dramatic Game 7, but the Cavs have several other players, including swingman J.R. Smith, to re-sign. They also need to figure out the future of forward Kevin Love, whose talents aren’t being maximized in Cleveland’s offense.
