This time of year it’s nice to give back to honor our nation’s veterans. And Chevrolet decided to help out an organization that does just that.

Dan Akerson, former chairman and CEO of General Motors and a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, recognized Wreaths Across America and one of its volunteers at Saturday’s Army-Navy football game.

Akerson presented Wreaths Across America founder Morrill Worcester with a Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty and a 40-foot trailer during an on-field ceremony. He also gifted a Silverado Special Ops edition to Gold Star Parent Scott Harris, one of Wreaths Across America’s most-dedicated volunteers.

Harris delivers wreaths around the country in a semi-truck that’s adorned in a portrait of his son, Army Spec. Dustin Harris, who was killed in Iraq in 2006.

“It is so important that we never forget the sacrifice that our military families make to ensure the safety and security of our country,” Akerson said in a statement. “Helping Wreaths Across America honor our fallen soldiers demonstrates in a small but powerful way the gratitude that the entire Chevrolet and GM family has for their service and their sacrifice.”

This is reportedly the third straight year Chevrolet is helping the organization honor fallen soldiers during the holiday season. The manufacturer donated a fleet of vehicles, which Dec. 11 will lead Wreaths Across America’s trip from its headquarters in Maine to Arlington National Cemetery in the District of Columbia.
