NFL Rumors: Ryan Tannehill ‘Very Uncertain’ To Rejoin Dolphins, Might Need Knee Surgery

Ryan Tannehill’s chances of playing football any time soon seem to be growing increasingly remote.

The knee injury the Miami Dolphins quarterback suffered last week wasn’t as bad as initially feared, but he still might require surgery to fully recover from his ACL and MCL sprains if rest and rehabilitation don’t ease his pain, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday, citing a source informed of the situation.

Tannehill reportedly hopes to return this season, with the 9-5 Dolphins in contention for a playoff spot. Surgery would rule out Tannehill for the remainder of the campaign, though.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase revealed to reporters last week that Tannehill hadn’t completely torn the ligaments. The announcement generated excitement over the Miami starter’s potential return to the field. But Rapoport’s report is sobering for those who believed Tannehill had dodged a major injury.

Quarterback Matt Moore has led the Dolphins to wins over the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets in Tannehill’s absence, and Miami will need those steady hands going forward. For how long remains to be seen.
