BOSTON — The 2019 Beanpot marks the first time since 2014 in which neither Boston University nor Harvard University will participate in the championship game.
The No. 18 Crimson enter Monday’s consolation game after falling to Boston College in the semifinals 2-1. BU was able to push the reigning Beanpot champion Northeastern Huskies to overtime but fell 2-1 despite an outstanding 47-save effort from goaltender Jake Oettinger.
BU and Harvard last squared up in a thrilling overtime game Jan. 8 with the game ending in a 2-2 tie.

FINAL: HARVARD 5 BOSTON UNIVERSITY 2
Harvard University officially is the third place finisher in the 2019 Beanpot tournament. The Crimson outshot the Terriers 39-26 on the game.
Third Period, 00:43, 5-2: Another empty-net goal for Harvard. R.J. Murphy strikes late with his first collegiate goal to put the game essentially out of reach.
Third Period, 1:53, 4-2: The third-period offensive outburst continues. This time it’s BU with the goal off of a shot in front of the goal by Gabriel Chabot. Mark Cheremeta and Jack DeBoer assisted on the shot.
Third Period, 3:09, 4-1: Harvard adds another insurance goal. BU came out of its timeout with an empty net, and the Crimson capitalized almost immediately with a shot deep in their defensive end off of the stick of Adam Fox.
Third Period, 3:21, 3-1: The Terriers call their first and only timeout of the game.
Third Period, 6:10, 3-1: Both team’ are back at even five-on-five strength after their penalties end without anymore offensive action.
Third Period, 7:32, 3-1: Frderic Grégoire strikes again! The junior forward rings the horn for the second time tonight to give the Crimson a two-goal lead with under 10 minutes to play.
Third Period, 8:10, 2-1: It didn’t take long for Harvard to join BU in the penalty box. Sophomore defender Reilly Walsh committed his first penalty of the night to nullify his team’s power play and bring it back to even strength at four players a piece.
Third Period, 8:49, 2-1: BU is entering the penalty box yet again. Sophomore forward Shane Bowers was flagged with a cross-checking minor. This is Harvard’s third power play of the night.
Third Period, 13:49, 2-1: We’ve got ourselves a game here at TD Garden. BU’s Patrick Curry puts the Terriers on the board with a little more than half of a period to play. It was Curry’s 10th goal of the season.
Third Period, 19:54, 2-0: Harvard was not able to sneak in a quick goal and the two teams are back to even strength.
Third Period, 20:00, 2-0: We’re back for the final period of the 2019 Beanpot consolation game!
SECOND INTERMISSION, 2-0:
Harvard will start the final period on a power play for the first six seconds due to Ryan Cloonan’s penalty late in the second. The Crimson currently are outshooting BU 32-14 and have not given up a power play to this point.
Second Period, 1:54, 2-0: BU gets bitten by the penalty bug again. Ryan Cloonan is the guilty party this time around. This is Harvard’s third power play of the night.
Second Period, 3:41, 2-0: Harvard strikes again! Jack Badini scores off of a pass from Reilly Walsh. It marked Badini’s seventh goal of the season.
Second Period, 10:32, 1-0: The Crimson scores! Harvard’s Frédéric Grégoire nets his fourth goal of the season and gives Harvard its first lead of the game.
Second Period, 18:01, 0-0: The Terrier’s penalty kill comes up strong this time around.
Second Period, 20:00, 0-0: Harvard and BU are back on the ice and we’re ready to drop the puck for the second period!
FIRST INTERMISSION, 0-0
Neither team has been able to muster up any offense yet. Harvard currently is leading in shots on goal (12-5), and BU has the edge in penalties (2-1). The Crimson will begin the second frame with the remaining 1:59 of a power play that occurred at the end of the first.
First Period, 0:02: Power play! BU’s Dante Fabbro gets tabbed wight a late cross-checking penalty to give Harvard its first power play of the game. The Crimson will start the second period with the man advantage.
