New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and former Boston Celtics forward Satch Sanders will be honored at the MIAA/MSSADA Sportsmanship Summit, which will take place on Nov. 18. This will be the seventh consecutive year that the summit, which recognizes individuals and schools that exemplify sportsmanship, will be held at Gillette Stadium.
Kraft will earn the MIAA Distinguished Friend Award, Sanders the MIAA/Ron Burton Community Service Award for leadership and respect toward others and retired Pembroke High School principal Ruth Lynch the William N. Gaine, Jr. Sportsmanship Award for spreading sportsmanship.
Sanders and former Patriots linebacker Andre Tippett will comprise a "tips from the best" panel presentation. Motivational speaker Harvey Alston, the MIAA Student Advisory Committee and Reading Memorial High School athletic director Philip Vaccaro will also give presentations.
In addition, one school in each district will be recognized for displaying outstanding sportsmanship. Awards for the top three entries to the MIAA Student Sportsmanship Essay/Multimedia Contest will also be awarded at the event.
The event, which will last from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is expected to draw over 1,000 members from different schools.
