Roy Hibbert's Benching on Crucial Defensive Possessions Another Case of Coach Overthinking Simple Decision
The Super Bowl and warm weather have become almost synonymous over the years. But next year the big game will be headed to the Big Apple, which also means cold weather.
Some players, coaches and fans aren’t likely to take too kindly to the early February weather they’ll face in the Northeast. One of this year’s Super Bowl quarterbacks is already letting his opinion be known.
Joe Flacco, who is getting set to lead the Ravens into the Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, was asked about the possibility of playing in cold weather for the big game one year from now. He responded with some choice comments on the matter, according to The Denver Post.
“Yeah,” Flacco said. “I think it’s retarded.”
Flacco quickly realized the negative attention he might be attracting and decided to alter his comment slightly.
“I probably shouldn’t say that,” Flacco said. “I think it’s stupid. If you want a Super Bowl, put a retractable dome on your stadium. Then you can get one.”
Aside from his negativity on the cold-weather bowl, which he clearly isn’t in favor of, Flacco should have known better than to use such an ugly word to describe his distaste, especially given his active role with Baltimore’s chapter of the Special Olympics.
Flacco might want to be a little smarter with his words or just keep mum on these topics, considering the increased media access during Super Bowl week.
