Brian Scalabrine to Join Golden State Warriors Coaching Staff as Assistant, Coach Mark Jackson Says

It looks like Scal isn’t sticking around for the Celtics’ rebuilding period, either.

Brian Scalabrine has found his way back to the NBA sidelines, but this time the popular benchwarmer won’t be entering games, even in garbage time. Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson tweeted Monday night that Scalabrine is joining his staff as an assistant coach.

Scalabrine had been working as an analyst for Comcast SportsNet, breaking down the Celtics after playing for Boston for five years. He played the last two seasons of his 11-year NBA career with the Chicago Bulls and was offered a coaching position there, but he chose to work with the Celtics last season instead.

The Warriors were one of the teams to watch last year. They went 47-35 (after a 23-43 year in 2011) and advanced to the second round of the NBA playoffs, where they lost to the eventual Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs. Behind shooters Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, plus big men Andrew Bogut and David Lee and recently acquired swingman Andre Iguodala, the Warriors have a young core that is expected to make noise in the West.
