The Grandview High School Greyhounds were seconds away from knocking off the Prosser High School Mustangs in regulation Saturday night when they became victims of one of the strangest plays this season.
With just over a minute to play in the fourth quarter, the two Washington teams were tied up at 65. Grandview came up with a steal as the final seconds ticked away, though, and took off on a fast break, with Bryce Carpenter going in for the potential game-winning layup.
The game looked to be all but over until the rim decided to throw the Greyhounds for a loop. Carpenter’s attempt never fell through the basket, but instead, it sat on the back of the rim as time expired to send the game into overtime.
Grandview prevailed 72-70 in overtime to remain undefeated on the season.
