Rory McIlroy is on top of the golf world after back-to-back wins at the British Open and Bridgestone Invitational, but unfortunately one scoreboard operator wasn’t on top of his game Friday afternoon.
McIlroy is on his way to adding a third consecutive tournament win to that list, surging up the leaderboard during the second round of the PGA Championship in Louisville, Ky. Or at least someone with a similar last name to him was.
Because of an unfortunate spelling error, the scoreboard showed someone named “McIlory” atop the leaderboard at Valhalla Golf Club.[tweet https://twitter.com/BovadaLV/status/497776367417970690 align=’center’]
In the operator’s defense, “Rory McIlory” does have a pretty nice ring to it.
The mistake didn’t appear to faze the golfer either, as he is 9 under par heading into the weekend, giving him a one-shot lead over Jason Day and Jim Furyk.
