It looks as though the Jacksonville Jaguars have added a weapon to their offense.

The Jags reportedly have reached an agreement with free-agent tight end Julius Thomas on a multi-year contract that would pay him around $9 million a year, The Denver Post’s Mike Klis reported Monday. A source told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that the former Denver Bronco still is talking to one other team, but it’s unlikely that that club is able to match Jacksonville’s offer.

Thomas was with the Broncos for four seasons, but an ankle injury he suffered on his first NFL catch caused him to miss nearly his entire first two seasons. He enjoyed a breakout year in 2013, catching 65 passes for 788 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Thomas had the same red-zone success in 2014, adding another 12 touchdowns — tied for the most among tight ends with Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Gates — to his resume. However, an injury to his other ankle put him out three regular season games, and he caught just three passes on eight targets over the final six weeks.

He didn’t catch a touchdown pass for the final seven.

Thomas is expected to sign with the Jaguars on Tuesday.
