Pablo Sandoval exited Wednesday night’s Boston Red Sox-Chicago White Sox matchup after the fifth inning because he was suffering from dehydration, the team announced.

Sandoval walked and flied out to shallow left field in his two at-bats. He was thrown out at the plate while trying to score from first on a Ryan Hanigan double in the third inning.

He was replaced at third base by Josh Rutledge, whom the Red Sox acquired Monday from the Los Angeles Angels. It was Rutledge’s Red Sox debut, and also his first taste of major league action this season.

Game-time temperature was 91 degrees at Fenway Park.
