Heartbreaker Sends Huskies Home

The Northeastern Huskies watched a 2-0 lead evaporate as the Cornell Big Red scored three unanswered goals to bounce NU from the national tournament.

Evan Barlow scored with 18 seconds left in regulation to stun the Huskies. Colin Greening and Blake Gallagher also scored for the ninth-ranked Big Red.

Louis Liotti and Steve Silva scored for Northeastern, while goaltender Brad Thiessen stopped 29 of 32 shots and picked up the loss.

After a successful regular season, the Huskies fizzled in postseason play. NU needed overtime to defeat the UMass Minutemen in the Hockey East quarterfinals before losing in the semifinals to UMass Lowell.

For the Huskies, Saturday's loss looked painfully similar to the loss to UMass Lowell when NU also relinquished a two-goal lead.
