The Boston College Eagles have become the New York Mets of college football.

Everything that could possibly go wrong inevitably does. This time — after the Eagles lost one quarterback to a broken collarbone last year and another one to academic ineligibility this summer — they lost projected starter David Shinskie to a cracked rib, according to the Boston Globe.

The 25-year-old former minor league baseball player took a hit from defensive end Damik Scafe during a scrimmage on Sunday and is now listed as day to day. He should be available for BC's season opener against Northeastern on Sept. 5, but whether he will start is uncertain.

If he doesn't, the Eagles are in trouble. They will be forced to choose between freshman Michael Marscovetra and junior Codi Boek.

"I was hoping to solidify this thing," Eagles head coach Frank Spaziani told the Globe. "Now this. Somebody is going to have to start the game, but it may be as cloudy as two guys are going to play."

Whatever the case, one thing is certain: It could be a long season for BC.
