Report: Minaya's Job Not in Danger The Mets have underachieved at an unheralded rate during the time that Omar Minaya has been the general manager, but it doesn't seem like anyone is blaming him. If it was his fault, how could he still have a job?

Team owner Fred Wilpon told the New York Post on Sunday that despite rampant speculation, Minaya will not lose his job.

"Am I going to bring Omar back next year? Absolutely. That's a fact," Minaya told the Post.

While the news may not be particularly comforting to Mets fans, it certainly was comforting to Minaya; in response to his boss' comments, he told the Post, "Jerry is my guy. We work well together."

ESPN.com reports that if Minaya stays, it is likely that manager Jerry Manuel will be staying, too. Minaya has one year remaining in a three-year contract, which he signed after the 2008 season.

Granted, the Mets' struggles this year can't be fully attributed to Minaya. No one could have predicted that the team would lose almost every superstar it had — Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran, and even David Wright — to injuries at some point during the season.

But as far as the Mets' epic September collapses at the end of the past two seasons — and their inability to make the postseason despite a massive payroll — there really is no explanation.

And apparently, Wilpon doesn't need one.

The Mets are currently in fourth place in the NL East at 57-66, 14 1/2 games behind the first-place Phillies.
