It's official: Stephane Yelle is no longer a Bruin.
The former Boston center, who was not re-signed by the team for the 2009-10 season, reached a one-year, $550,000 agreement with the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday.
"Stephane is a proven winner," Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said in a statement. "He adds depth and experience to the Hurricanes at the center position, and he will contribute to the penalty kill."
Yelle, 35, tallied seven goals and 11 points with a plus-6 rating in 77 games with the Bruins in 2008-09.
This is the fourth team Yelle has played for throughout his 13-year career. He spent his first seven seasons with the Colorado Avalanche before moving on to Calgary for five years. He played in Boston for just one season.
Earlier this season, Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli expressed disappointment that Yelle's career with Boston would soon be coming to an end, telling NESN, "Steph was good for us this past year, but you have to make some hard decisions. We like the added grit, but we're sorry to see Stephane go."
In his career, Yelle has amassed 92 goals in 921 games with a plus-13 rating. He won two Stanley Cups, both with the Avalanche.
