The NL Central winners will be getting their baseball genius back to manage the club. Tony La Russa has signed a multiyear contract to continue managing the Cardinals, ESPN.com reports.

La Russa has been unsure of his future with the Cardinals since the team was swept by the Dodgers in the NLDS. His two-year contract with the team expires at the end of October.

"We're getting closer," La Russa told ESPN earlier on Sunday. "But nothing has been decided. I can't tell
you anything yet."

According to ESPN, Cardinals hitting coach Hal McRae has been fired, and former Cardinal Mark McGwire will replace him, the first change to the Cardinals coaching staff.
