Taking a page from the book of his old mentor, Bill Belichick, Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis is keeping mum on the "incident" involving starting quarterback Jimmy Clausen early on Sunday morning.

According to reports, Clausen was punched outside a South Bend bar and has a swollen eye. Weis declined to discuss the incident during a Tuesday news conference, saying he would only answer questions about Saturday's game at Stanford, according to ESPN.com.

Weis did indicate that Clausen would practice on Tuesday night and would play on Saturday.

On Monday, ESPN's Joe Schad reported that Clausen was "sucker punched" by a fan after having dinner with his parents. A source told Schad the fan said something to Clausen and/or a female acquaintance following Notre Dame's Senior Day loss to Connecticut.

Clausen will be available to speak with the media on Wednesday.

Clausen's isn't the only scandal permeating South Bend right now, as Weis' future is in question after he has led the Irish to an unimpressive 6-5 record this season, once again failing to meet expectations of one of the country's most storied football programs.

For now, Weis isn't thinking about the future. He's just thinking about the opportunity to earn an impressive win on Saturday, telling ESPN.com, "I'm fired up to go play Stanford."
