The second annual "Corntoss for a Cure" will take place on Saturday, Nov. 14 to honor the memory of Greg Montalbano, the Westborough, Mass., native who passed away in August after a long battle with cancer. Montalbano pitched in the Red Sox system, earning Red Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Year honors in 2001.

To promote the event, Ben Beck will be a guest during the second intermission of Thursday night's Bruins game against the Panthers.

The official Web site for "Corntoss for a Cure" can be visited here. The event will be held at the Shaw's Center in Brockton, Mass., which is connected to Campanelli Stadium. The tournament begins at 11 a.m. and is open to the public. All proceeds will be donated to a scholarship to Northeastern University in Montalbano's name. Montalbano was a star pitcher at Northeastern, where he played with Carlos Pena, and Montalbano later played with Kevin Youkilis in the minor leagues.

"[Montalbano] did a lot of great things for the Jimmy Fund," Kevin Youkilis said in August. "He was always speaking out for that. It was important to him. He wanted to live the dream and make it to the big leagues, like we all did. His body just didn’t allow him to get to that point. But maybe the money that gets raised by the Jimmy Fund will save that one kid that might have that opportunity to play in the big leagues one day and fulfill his dream."
