Dustin Pedroia Clears Up Shortstop 'Misunderstanding' So much for having to move Dustin Pedroia from second base.

Just days after the former AL MVP said he woulld be open to moving to shortstop, the Red Sox signed free agent Marco Scutaro to fill the void. On Saturday, the Red Sox No. 2 hitter explained that the whole notion of him sliding to short was blown out of proportion.

"That situation got blown way out of proportion," Pedroia told WEEI. "There was just a couple of talks — it was kind of a misunderstanding."

Pedroia went on to say, "If that situation came up, yeah, I would be willing to do it. That's pretty much what I said — it wasn't talked about as much as people thought."

Pedroia played his collegiate career at short, but since making the big leagues, he's seen just six games there (in 2006) compared to 475 career contests at second.
