Report: White Sox Show Serious Interest in Hideki Matsui If the Yankees are going to bring Hideki Matsui back to the Bronx next year, they’re going to have some serious competition.

According to the New York Daily News, the White Sox have emerged as a “serious contender” for the outfielder’s services. While the Angels have confirmed that they are interested in Matsui, their level of interest is not known.

Although the Yankees are expected to make a push for Matsui before he makes a decision, Tuesday’s trade for Detroit’s Curtis Granderson suggests there will not be a spot on next year’s roster for both Matsui and Johnny Damon.

The Daily News reports that the White Sox would have about $5-6 million to offer Matsui.

In 2009, the 35-year-old hit .274 with 28 homers and 90 RBIs and was named the MVP of the World Series.
