Since the Whalers left Connecticut, the Nutmeg State has been struggling to keep a respectable identity in the professional sports world.

The AHL’s Wolfpack, the WNBA’s Sun and minor league baseball’s Rock Cats and Defenders have represented Connecticut in the pro sports world but joining them soon will be a United Football League franchise.

The UFL has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday at Rentschler Field in East Hartford and is expected to announce moving its New York franchise to the stadium.

Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell, UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue and New York Sentinels coach Chris Palmer are all scheduled to attend.

The UFL began its inaugural season in October of 2009 with teams in Orlando, New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco. The eight-week season ended with the Las Vegas Locomotives beating the Florida Tuskers, 20-17 in November’s championship.
