Hannah Teter and Kelly Clark, both of whom grew up in Vermont, captured the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the women's snowboarding halfpipe competition Thursday night in Vancouver.

Neither could match Australia's Torah Bright, though. After falling on her first run, the Aussie laid down a flawless second run that earned a score of 45.0, putting her 2.6 points ahead of Teter.

Fellow American Gretchen Bleiler, the silver medalist in Turin four years ago, fell once on each run and finished 11th, one spot behind teammate Elena Hight.

Similar to Shaun White on the men's side Wednesday night, Bright was good enough to win without even attempting her best trick — the double cork, which involves two flips and has never been attempted in competition by a woman.

Because she sat in last place at the turn, Bright had to go first in the second round and wait nearly 30 minutes to see if her score would stand up.

Following the theme of sloppiness that emerged in the first round, one competitor after another lost points for wipeouts, washouts and wobbles. Clark, who won gold at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, went down on both her runs but still managed to take third.

Teter, the gold medalist four years ago in Turin, had the final chance to surpass Bright. She put together a solid run, but lost speed at the bottom of the pipe and couldn't get enough air to finish strong.
