In a new book, Shonda Shilling, wife of former pitcher Curt Schilling, revealed that the couple's son has Asperger's syndrome.

In "The Best Kind of Different," Shonda explains that her son, Grant, was not diagnosed quickly and that "because her husband was busy playing baseball, he didn’t see what was happening," according to The Boston Globe.

The book details the effect that the Asperger's diagnosis had on the family, including another son's battle with anorexia and the couple's counseling that saved their marriage.

Asperger's syndrome is an autistic disorder, one that affects social interaction and brings about atypical behavior.
