In a small sign of good news for the Bruins, Marc Savard has been cleared to fly back to Boston, NESN.com’s James Murphy reports.

Savard is believed to have suffered a concussion in Sunday afternoon’s tilt in Pittsburgh, when Matt Cooke leveled Savard with a questionable hit late in the third period. The degree of the concussion is still unknown, but Savard plans to visit a concussion specialist after returning home, NESN’s Naoko Funayama reports.

Before leaving Pittsburgh, Savard was seen
walking through Pittsburgh International Airport
with Bruins trainer Derek Repucci, the Boston Herald reports.

“I’m just really tired right now,” Savard told the Herald on Monday. “[I have] headaches, my head’s been pounding all morning. I just want to get back to Boston and get in my bed. I’ll see our own doctors today. Then I’ll get some rest, and we’ll take it from there.”

Savard doesn’t know when he’ll play again nor does he recall getting knocked out.

“I don’t even remember taking the shot,” Savard told the Herald. “I remember generally most of the game, but up around that point, I totally don’t remember any of it.”

The hit has stirred many reactions around the hockey world.

GM Peter Chiarelli is in Florida for the GM meetings, and head shots are expected to be discussed.
